Tripper whispers like thunder, combining transcendent melodies with glacial strings and piano, febrile electronics, hushed male-female vocals and a Greenlandic choir. A year in the making, the album is intense and dramatic; intimate yet coolly detached.

Efterklang means ‘reverberation’, but is loosely translated as ‘remembrance’, evoking the sense of yearning at the heart of their work. Tripper breathes with sensations and subtleties and emotional depth, bringing to mind the music of Múm, Rachel’s and My Bloody Valentine.

Formed in early 2001 by Mads Brauer, Casper Clausen and Rasmus Stolberg, the core members soon augmented their line-up with Rune Mølgaard Fonseca’s piano and Thomas Kirirath Husmer’s percussion work. This line-up recorded their debut EP, Springer, on their own Rumraket label.

The album features more than 30 guest musicians among them Hildur Ársælsdóttir and Edda Rún Ólafsdóttir from Icelandic Amiina. Hildur and Edda was also part of the Efterklang live band in the year that followed the release of Tripper.

The Guardian 5 of 5 stars “The vocal subtlety is one of the many things that makes Tripper an album to savour over time rather than one that delivers an immediate hit. This is the album to spend your tokens on. Five stars”

Pitchfork 7.9 rating “Perhaps it’s a credit to the sheer number of cooks in the kitchen, but even with this music's grand scale each song is allowed enough space to be able to breathe on its own. And with their vibrant, continually evolving arrangements, Efterklang here ensures that, as their name implies, this music should continue to reverberate in your memory for a long time to come”
